Hitty Molly Marie in Nappanee

Sept. 30, 2010---

Dear Diary,

How happy I was to finally arrive in the little hamlet of Nappanee, Indiana.

What a far distance from Flintstone. I was eager to get out and stretch my stiff wooden legs. Dr. Isabella and I looked through my luggage to make sure all was safe.

Mary Ann is my person host. DeeDee was first on the list but begged off due to the Hittys at Azure Estates being all atwitter, feeling not ready to receive me in the royal manner they had anticipated. Never mind. I am in the curious position of being able to see A.E. from my window. The Chalet, where I am staying, is on the other end of Azure Estates property!

Dr. Isabella brought me from the mail station to the Chalet. Imagine my surprise to see families traveling by horse and buggy! Isabella explained the community and the necessity to “watch where you are stepping” whenever you are uptown. Uptown consists of the town square, which isn’t a square at all but rather an intersection. A state highway intersects with a national highway…many small-town businesses vie for space at the intersection.

We pulled in to the Estates in a manner of minutes. One perk of small-town living is that everything is so handy. Once home, Isabella took me to the kitchen for a slice of pie and lemonade.

We had nice small talk about my journey and if there were any places I specifically wanted to see.

The Chalet is a boarding home for many fine Hittys. Isabella is the town doctor and often doubles as the town vet. Azure Estates (including the Chalet) boasts about 30 residents. Farming, weaving, spinning, furniture making, sewing, and cooking are the services rendered here.

The town and atmosphere are so different from Flintstone. We ended up going to a local flea market/antique mall. We met many fine small characters there.

One man, a lonely “Lefton” fisherman, was discouraged about his lack of catch. We were happy to give him a pep talk.

We then ran into two Dalmation pups. They were so cute but rambunctious! We feared they would wreak havoc in the store.

We also found a lovely cast iron whale to admire.

Finally, we met a lovely maiden on her way to deliver gifts from a sleigh…she asked directions and of course Isabella knew which way she needed to go. By her clothing I deduced that she wasn’t from these parts…

The weather has been chilly. How toasty I am this evening, sitting on my bed, after having written in my journal of the day’s events.

Singing and signing off,

Molly Marie

Hitty Molly at Lindas and school

I decide to go look around the yard a little. Hitty Mikaela said she would love to come with me. Thes are some flowers still blooming in Lindas yard.

We decide to take a closer look at this plant. It is called a swinging Linda plant and was given to Linda by her friend June.

We walked out front to look at the front part of the house. here is Lindas house number and some friends she made.

Linda came out and asked us if we would like to ride down to school with her. Oh we said yes. We went into the office to give the secretary some things Linda worked on as she will not be able to go tomorrow. While there Linda wanted to donate a copy of Hitty to there library. Noone wanted there picture taken but one teacher let us take her holding us and the book. Come to find out the teacher went to another elementary school when she was little and had read the Hitty book. Linda and we too were sooooooooo excited.

Sincerely, Hitty Molly

Volunteering at School

Good morning, Linda is busy getting ready to go. Come on Hitty Molly says Hitty Marcia we are going to. But where are we going? Oopsssssss we are now in the car backing outa the carport and heading down the road. In about what seems like two minutes we stop. Oh yippeeee says Marcia we are here. Where? I ask. Look over there on the building she says. Flintstone School, we are volunteering today.

Oh my we are in the volunteer room and looks like a very busy place to be. We decide to help cut some papers. I thought we would use scissors but they have this big thing called a cutter and whoaaaaaaaa does it ever cut.

Now we have a glue stick and we are gluing numbers on cards to be laminated for the kindengarden kids to learn there numbers with. We have not stopped working since we got here.

Now we are over at the laminating machine, we have a lot of papers to put thru it-it puts like a contact paper all over it and the machine gets kinda warm.

Linda needs some things copied to put together an apple book for the teacher in kindengarden so we came over to use the copier machine.

It is after 2 in the afternoon and time for us to go home. We are tired, we done so much this morning. We decide to go out and look at the playgroud but was disappointed because there were no kids for us to play with. Well I for oine am taking a good old nap when i get home. Later zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Hitty MMM

Day at the Auction

Linda and Randolph decided to go to the auction and yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I got to go. There was so many things to look at. Linda said they had 3 big white trucks to unload. We walked up and down the aisles to see what they all had. This was a cart about 10 shelves and was full of paints. There were many paintings to be sold so we think the paints were used.

We walked a little further and found this basket. it had a few pieces of fabric and felt so good to sit and have the sun warming me up. Oh my here we go again.........

Here we ran into some buyers and oh my Linda says this is her grandson Sonny and oh my a sweet little girl named Skylar who is Lindas great grandaughter and she lovesssssssssss Hitties.

Linda stopped to see these cannisters. They had a country scene on them with cows on them-aren't they just beautiful......

Here is one piece Linda won for just a couple dollars. It is filled with blocks of clay. She got a box of beaded necklaces. There is a few here, some Hitties will have some very pretty necklaces. Here are a couple dolls she found too. A very good day at the auction for sure.

Another box Linda got was this box of furniture that will help fill some more rooms in The Bedrock Inn. Oh my we have walked from 12 till 5 and our limbs are getting very tired. We have had a great day but we are ready to go home and put our legs up. Hope you enjoy our day at the auction. Love, Hitty MMM
